  Forum accounts clean up
Posted by: quad3datwork - 03-22-2011 10:21 AM - Replies (1)

We've purged 30+ or so forum user accounts. All were just accounts trying to create backlinks.

Sorry, but unless you have something meaningful and/or related sysadmin topics, please DO NOT register an account on SysAdminTalk.Net! Please take your SEO business elsewhere.

We don't want to take more drastic measures such as auto-pruning and/or IP banning. Thank you.

  Social network buttons
Posted by: quad3datwork - 01-27-2011 12:33 PM - Replies (1)

We actually implemented this the first day site is launched. It did took some template code modifications to get this done.

Every article you read will have the Facebook Like Button on top. If you like the article, please feel free to click "like".

We will slowly implement more social networking add-ons in near future.

Get moderator status AND "free VPS" with 20 sysadmin relevant posts!
Posted by: quad3datwork - 01-27-2011 12:32 PM - Replies (14)

Don't forget! For a limited time only, you can become a moderator of SysAdminTalk.Net by making twenty new posts!
Replies to existing posts may not be counted toward this offer, however, it can be considered at our discretion.

The only requirement is that all new posts needs to be relevant to "sysadmin". Guides/tutorials/howto, tips, questionnaires/FAQ... etc. all counts! Copy-and-paste from other blogs, forums, websites... etc. will not count! Unless you are the OP (Original Poster) and owns the copyright to it.

Posted by: quad3datwork - 01-27-2011 12:00 PM - No Replies

Instead of going straight to the forums. I've made MyBB Portal the homepage.

  Enabled memcached
Posted by: quad3datwork - 01-27-2011 11:59 AM - No Replies

Instead of using DB cache, we are using memcached from now on. My personal experience with memcached is it works very well with large sites. Probably won't notice too much since SysAdminTalk.Net is still young and small. Blush

Exclamation Forum recovery (and very first post... :) )
Posted by: quad3datwork - 01-27-2011 12:39 AM - Replies (1)

We suffered some massive damage to theme/template files due to incompatibilities between certain MyBB plugins. The exact combination of which plugins is unknown. We had to get official support staff from MyBB.com to do recovery on those files.

Since SysAdminTalk.Net is still in its infancy. We decided to start over new. The primary reason is we think there are unknown damages elsewhere. We still have the old forum, and it is still operational. However, we've turned the old forum into development forum. Keeping the this one as production forum. Starting from now on, we will test and make changes to dev forum first, test it out, work out any bugs, and make the final changes to prod forum. We've implemented this as precautionary step to provide better overall stability for SysAdminTalk.Net.

If you have registered before, we kindly ask you to re-register again. We deeply apologize for any inconveniences this may have caused. Please do not look at this as a setback. At any rate, we rather this happen at this point than later! Rolleyes Also, we are not implying MyBB is fragile. It is not! MyBB is a very solid piece of software. This problem will be same across any other forum or message board software.

Everyone hates data lost, so do we. Smile There is no 100% data protection. No one can guarantee 100% uptime. At one point or the other, there will be downtime. What we all can do is prepare what we can, and have a proper disaster recovery (DR) plan. When the time comes, you will be prepared with lessen heartache. Blush

We will try to recover and savage whatever we can from the dev forum in the following days. Thank you very much for understanding and have a nice day! Cool
